Miso Hot!

Once I saw a t-shirt that said:  "Miso Hot".  I'm corny, so I thought it was funny.  However, ever since I read that, I had wondered what miso was.  Not wanting to be left out of the fun, I researched miso, and read; that it is a fermented paste made out of soybeans.  Ew!  At that point, I decided I'd heard enough, and that miso was not for me.

However, I went to brunch yesterday, and saw a miso soup on the menu.  Since, I am determined to discover new things, and continue my foodie journey, I ordered the miso.  I'm so glad I did.  The soup was, of course, made with miso, but it also had spicy tofu, shredded cabbage, zucchini, green onion, and a half a boiled egg for good measure.  I omitted the noodles, since I'm on a special grain-free diet.

The soup was bold, and to my surprise the tofu was sublime.  It was one of the best soups I've ever had.  I'm so glad I was brave enough to try this amazing dish.  I hope you try it.  When you do, let me know what you think!  Ciao!

January Winter Woes

Twenty Nine degrees.  Ouch!  I wish we were back in Puerto Rico.  This picture is of a beach called Crash Boat.  Don't let the name fool you, it's a really great beach.  We had a wonderful time. 

It's on these cold winter days, that I pine away for a sandy beach,  swaying palm trees, and the knowledge that the only thing I have to do that day is sit back and enjoy!

Wok Oil

Around my house, we love trying new things.  I love to experience new things.  I'm trying to eat more salads, more vegetables, when actually what I really want is a chocolate cupcake, with cream cheese frosting.  I digress.  My mom brought home something called Wok Oil.  I'd never heard of it.   I figured I'd give it a go. 
Oh, my goodness!  It was our best  new discovery in recent memory.  One taste, and literally, my eyes opened wide.  It wasn't just a taste, as it was a sensation.  This oil infused with Thai basil, and lemongrass was bright, and extremely aromatic.

The flavor was so fresh, that it made my usual olive oil seem completely redundant.  Granted olive oil isn't completely useless.   However, for my beloved oil and vinegar dressed salads, plain olive oil can take a hike.  Wok on!

Perfume of the day!

I love discovering new fragrances.  I like to discover then on my own, without getting into all the hype surrounding the release of something new.  I find that I really like Lancome La Vie Est Belle. 

La Vie Est Belle is light, feminine, and then it eases into a wonderful softness.  This fragrance is totally wearable.  It's lovely, not juvenile, the only drawback, is that it didn't wear a long time.  You can't win them all, but at least you'll smell good while it lasts!

Zen Cha

Sometimes, I feel the need for quiet reflection.  As a single mom, I have to carve out a few precious minutes for myself. So in the spirit of "me time",  I went to one of my favorite restaurants, and had an amazing experience. 

I treated myself to a salad of Romaine, perfectly seasoned beef, crisp cabbage slivers, and blue cheese.  I substituted Basil oil, and fresh lemon, for the usual ginger dressing; enjoying it immensely!

I experienced Zen Cha's sublime, Kyoto Cherry Blossom tea. The aroma of the tea was so delicately sweet, and paired with the salad, was the perfect "me time" meal.  Discover and new restaurant for yourself, and open yourself to new experiences.
